The Rudolf Steiner Library & Bookshop is operated by the Anthroposophical Society in America, which is a nonsectarian, nonpolitical organization open to everyone regardless of religion, race, nationality, social standing, scientific or artistic conviction. It was founded as "an association of people who would foster the life of the soul, both in the individual and in human society, on the basis of a true knowledge of the spiritual world."

The library contains an extensive collection of books by Rudolf Steiner in English and German, as well as books on Anthroposophical subjects by other authors. Memberships are open to the public and free of charge. Donations are welcome to help cover the cost of new acquisitions.
