    The Pasadena Senior Center hosts free movie screenings on three Friday afternoons in July.

    July 5: “The Lion King” (1994, PG) starring Matthew Broderick and Jeremy Irons. A lion cub crown prince is tricked by a treacherous uncle into thinking he caused his father's death and flees into exile in despair, only to learn in adulthood his identity and his responsibilities.

    July 12: “Apollo 11” (2019, G) starring Buzz Aldrin and Joan Ann Archer. A documentary about the Apollo 11 mission to land on the moon led by commander Neil Armstrong and pilots Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

    July 19: “Chicago” (2002, PG) starring Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Two female murderers, one a small-time chorus girl and the other a major Vaudeville star, find themselves on death row together. They fight for the fame inside that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s-era Chicago.

    Old Pasadena Summer Cinema returns for another year as a month-long, FREE movie series featuring screenings in unique urban settings. Running from July 5 – July 27, this annual summer film program features a variety of audience-pleasing movie titles and genres in two outdoor locales in the historic district of Old Pasadena: Central Park and One Colorado. All screenings are free and open to the public.

    One Colorado screens Enchanted (2007) PG – 107 min. Merging animation with live action, Enchanted begins in an archetypical fairytale kingdom called Andalasia where Giselle (Amy Adams) hopes to create her own “happily ever after.”  She soon gains the affection of Prince Edward (James Marsden), but the Queen (Susan Sarandon), determined to retain her power, pushes Giselle into a well, causing her to land in modern-day New York City, where she finds a version of love she never imagined. 

    Limited seating is provided at One Colorado, arrive early to secure a spot. All screenings start at 8:30pm.  Silent Disco headsets are available first-come first-served with a California drivers license. Free popcorn from iPic Theaters (while supplies last) and treats for sale from Sugarfina. One Colorado restaurants offer special promotions and pop-up bars - check website for more details.

    Old Pasadena Summer Cinema returns for another year as a month-long, FREE movie series featuring screenings in unique urban settings. Running from July 5 – July 27, this annual summer film program features a variety of audience-pleasing movie titles and genres in two outdoor locales in the historic district of Old Pasadena: Central Park and One Colorado. All screenings are free and open to the public.

    Enjoy a free screening of Singles (1992) PG-13 – 99 min. Set in early ‘90s, grunge-era Seattle, Singles follows six twenty-somethings living in the same apartment building as they forge friendships and search for love amid the city’s burgeoning music scene.  The soundtrack, certified double platinum, features contributions from artists like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam; members of each band make cameo appearances throughout the film.

    Summer Cinema screenings in Central Park are in partnership with Human Services and Recreation – City of Pasadena. Come picnic in the park prior to the film and enjoy DJ music and free ice cream from Paradis (while supplies last). Bring your own chairs and blankets to Central Park.

    One Colorado screens Coco (2017) PG – 105 min. An homage to the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, Coco explores heritage and tradition through the lens of 12-year-old Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), who dreams of being a musician and following in the footsteps of his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz.  Faced with a family who has banned all music from his household, Miguel defiantly steals a guitar to perform with at the town square but finds himself trapped in the Land of the Dead. 

    Limited seating is provided at One Colorado, arrive early to secure a spot. All screenings start at 8:30pm.  Silent Disco headsets are available first-come first-served with a California drivers license.     One Colorado screens Ocean’s 8 (2018) PG-13 – 110 min.Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) puts her months-long plan into action with the help of her assembled ace team of ladies. Their target: a necklace worth more than $150 million, scheduled to make an appearance at the Met Gala. The star-studded cast includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Serena Williams, and Anna Wintour.

    Enjoy a free screening of Zootopia (2016) PG – 108 min. Judy Hopps, a rabbit with a passion for social justice and law enforcement, moves from the countryside to urban Zootopia, where she becomes the first rabbit to join the police force.  Although assigned to parking duty, Judy longs to do more and soon becomes steadfast in her goal to crack a conspiracy case. The film includes voicework by Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, and Shakira.

    This screening in Central Park provides the chance to picnic in the park prior to the film and includes DJ music, activities for the kids, and free ice cream from Paradis (while supplies last). Bring your own chairs and blankets to Central Park.

Loosely based on a true story and borrowing nuances from Mexican lucha libre professional wrestling, Nacho Libre tells the tale of Ignacio (Jack Black), an orphanage worker who cares deeply about his charges and worries about the lack of funds to care for them properly. He decides to moonlight as a wrestler in disguise to raise money for the children.
