Explore great architecture, historical discoveries, family fun, and entertainment at five local museums all for free at Museums of the Arroyo (MOTA) Day on Sunday, May 21, 2023.

  • Gamble House
  • Heritage Square
  • Los Angeles Police Museum
  • Lummis Home and Garden
  • Pasadena Museum of History

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of Museums of the Arroyo Day – a community event that annually brings together thousands of Angelenos from across Southern California to experience the rich history, iconic architecture, and arts-driven neighborhoods of the Arroyo Seco area.

Free shuttles connect the museums: The Gamble House, Heritage Square, Los Angeles Police Museum, Lummis Home, Pasadena Museum of History, and the Autry’s Historic Southwest Museum.

With so much to do and see – and only a few hours to do it – visitors are encouraged to best plan their visits and to pace themselves accordingly. MOTA Day takes place from noon to 5:00 pm with the last museum entrance at 4:00 pm. Visit the website www.MuseumsOfTheArroyo.com for parking locations, shuttle routes, and up-to-date information about events at each museum.

Special events at the Old Pasadena adjacent locations include:

The Gamble House:

  • Visit the Gamble House Bookstore for MOTA Day-only specials.
  • Kids and adults can play lawn games and enjoy a hands-on crafts table.
  • The first floor will be open for a self-guided walk-through.
  • Picnics are welcome on the lawn.
  • Volunteer docents will be on hand to answer questions indoors and throughout the gardens.

Pasadena Museum of History:

  • Currently on view Community Stitches: Quilt Designs & Stories features more than 60 quilts representing over 180 years of quilt-making in America. Curated by Arlene Stevens and Leah Zieber of the California Heritage Quilt Project, highlights include treasures from the Museum’s extensive textile collection along with select pieces on loan. Discover hidden stories in these stitches of the past as we explore the complex history of quilts made by and for the Pasadena community.
  • Guests can join MiniTours of the Finnish Folk Art Museum which is furnished in the style of a 19th-century Finnish farmhouse, one of a handful of museums devoted to the Scandinavian country in the United States.
