About Jungle Fire
Conceived as a one-off Afro Latin funk jam between friends in 2011, Los Angeles’ Jungle Fire has quickly and steadily become an explosive 10-piece Tropi-Funk juggernaut lighting up sold-out dance floors and music festivals in several continents. Jungle Fire’s unique blend of deep funk, West African dance music and Afro-Caribbean rhythms has been a favorite of well-known DJs and taste makers worldwide, including the likes of Craig Charles and Gilles Peterson (BBC), the Paris DJs (France), Rich Medina, Garth Trinidad (KCRW), Cut Chemist, DJ Numark, and NPR, to name a few. Their sound is a direct reflection of the musical and cultural landscape of the city they call home; a highly explosive musical cocktail ready to ignite lovers of funky beats worldwide!

Then, KCRW DJ LeRoy Downs, aka “The Jazzcat,” brings Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition winner and jazz bassist Ben Williams to the beautiful One Colorado open-air courtyard. Ben will be joined by Syndee Winters (vocals), Braxton Cook (saxophone) Andrew Renfroe (guitar), and Jonathan Pinson (drums).

Schedule for Saturday, October 23

  • 8:00 – 9:00 pm  Ben Williams Band
  • 9:00 – 10:00 pm  KCRW DJ LeRoy Downs

LeRoy Downs is the curator of Los Angeles’ Just Jazz Concert Series and spins an eclectic mix of progress jazz every Sunday night on KCRW from 10:00 PM to midnight PT.

About Ben Williams
When it comes to Black music, Washington, D.C. produces its share of game-changers. That long list includes Duke Ellington, Chuck Brown, Marvin Gaye, Shirley Horn, Roberta Flack, Bad Brains, Meshell Ndegeocello, Wale, and Oddisee. You can add Ben Williams to that venerated roster. Williams has performed/recorded with such giants as Pat Metheny, George Benson, Stefon Harris, David Sanborn, Lauryn Hill, Wynton Marsalis, Robert Glasper, Maxwell, and Nicholas Payton. On his latest release I Am A Man, Williams discovers his true voice—both metaphorically and literally: The record marks the first time Williams contributes lead vocals to an album. In a voice that’s both honest and unassuming, Williams paints a portrait of an artist—and a black man in America—in search of answers to help guide him through life.
