Gold Bug Gallery presents Spirit: Art Afterlife -- a group exhibition and auction featuring the sculptural art of twenty contemporary artists playfully exploring life after death.

Opening Reception 5:00-9:00pm on Monday, November 1

Gold Bug invites you to spend part of your evening, on that celebratory day of Día de los Muertos, delighting in art and drink at the opening reception of Spirit: Art Afterlife

For the exhibit, Gold Bug has provided 20 contemporary artists with the same blank canvas on which to work, a three-dimensional ghost sculpture made by ceramic artist, Roberto Cambi. The finished collection will be put on display at Gold Bug and become available for purchase to the general public via online bidding at 5:00pm on Monday, November 1 through  5:00pm on Wednesday, December 15. The net proceeds generated from the show will be donated to the ACLU of Southern California.

The iconic ghost figures featured in the show were designed and fabricated specifically for the event by Italian-based artist, Roberto Cambi, who began working with ceramics early in life while studying at the Academia di Pittura in Faenza, the historic city known worldwide for its manufacture of majolica and glazed earthenware pottery. The artists invited to embellish Cambi’s ghost sculptures draw on a mastery of craft derived from their individual involvement in a myriad of disciplines that include set and costume design, mechanical engineering, special effect prosthetic production, taxidermy display and miniature assemblage, glass art production, graphic design, fine art painting, photomontage mixed media work, metalwork, and more. On paper, perhaps an unexpected grouping of artists, but upon further examination intimately bound by their curiosity and appreciation for the natural world and its simulation. The collection as a whole represents a broad swath of contemporary surrealist work, asking the viewer to reconsider what they know about the genre today. And, to put a smile on their face.
