The Colorado Street Bridge has been threatened numerous times, and for the last 43 years, Pasadena Heritage has been its leading champion. To save and restore this iconic structure, the organization conducted letter-writing campaigns, constant lobbying and national publicity efforts. Pasadena Heritage’s famous summer event on the spectacular span first highlighted the need to repair it. After many years of effort, the Bridge was saved, seismically upgraded and restored to its original grandeur – a feat that is celebrated with this community event.
Pasadena Heritage brings back the Colorado Street Bridge Party from August 9th through 15th as a virtual event. Following are brief descriptions for all events scheduled during their week-long Virtual Celebration of the Colorado Street Bridge. Your ticket gains you entrance to all of these events, except as noted. However, please note the Virtual Beer Tasting & Bridge Trivia event on Friday requires registration for that specific event.
If you have any questions regarding a specific event please email [email protected]. Tickets will go on sale in early July.

The celebration in 1993 when the Bridge reopened was the organization’s biggest Bridge Party on record! They will share the history and tell the story of the fight to save this landmark structure. Joining will be bestselling author and journalist Chip Jacobs. Jacobs’ writing has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, CNN, Wired and elsewhere. Panel Discussion on Fencing on the Colorado Street Bridge
Over the course of its history, this iconic structure has undergone several design changes to deter and prevent suicides. Most recently, a Task Force worked for more than a year to provide recommendations for a more effective, permanent solution to this ongoing and challenging problem. Preservation Director Andrew Salimian will host a panel discussion with fellow Task Force members and project architects to discuss the process and outcome for the design of the proposed new fence.
Wednesday, August 12th
The Colorado Street Bridge Party has always been a time for Pasadena’s youngest residents to experience and enjoy their local history. This year they invite children and their families to join on Zoom for two different programs! Bridge Party favorite Alan Bruni will host a virtual drum circle. Following that lively event, Education Director Patty Judy will host a story time, reading a children’s book about bridges. After the story, Patty will lead a friendly interview with Chris Peck, architect, engineer and founder of PECK Architecture Structural Civil, with a hands-on bridge building activity. A supplies list for bridge building will be provided in advance.
