The Muppet Movie (1979) G – 95 min. Kermit the Frog embarks on a cross-country trip to Hollywood in the first theatrical film featuring Jim Henson’s Muppets. Along the way, Kermit is pursued by the evil restaurateur Doc Hopper and picks up several Muppet friends that share his show business dream, resulting in an epic road trip comedy that also features many familiar human cameos. In 2009, the film was named to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant and will be preserved for all time.
This screening in Central Park provides the chance to picnic in the park prior to the film, and includes free puppet making with the Armory Center for the Arts, a puppet theater for play and photo ops, roving puppeteers, DJ Glenn Red, and free ice cream from Paradis (while supplies last). Bring your own chairs and blankets to Central Park.
