| September 5, 1893: The Paving of Colorado Street |
| After ten years of declining quality as the main thoroughfare, Colorado Street was finally paved. After The Pasadena Daily Evening Star reported of the “deplorable condition of Colorado Street in the business center of the city” there was a a petition started urging street improvement and was signed by nearly every businessman on Colorado Street. The entire paving process was completed in two months. As the Star explained on December 28, “Walking dry-shod over the Colorado Street pavement and sinking to your ankles in the mud of unpaved streets is where the joke comes in on the mind.” |
