    Members and nonmembers of the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly Street, are invited to free events and activities for anyone 50 and older. The center is a vital community resource where older adults can age in place while thriving in motion. Residency in Pasadena is not required to attend events and activities. 

    Registration for Zoom activities and most onsite events is required by visiting www.pasadenaseniorcenter.org and clicking on Activities & Events, Lectures & Classes or Resources.  Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive an email link for joining each activity online.

    Bilingual Tech Help Program —Mondays, at 10 a.m. onsite in the Computer Lab at Pasadena Senior Center. Need Help with Your Smart Phone/Tablet or Computer? Stop by during our tech help sessions where you can learn how to navigate social media platforms, send texts, check voicemails, set alarms, and more. Our experienced instructor, PSC’s own Mariana Porras, will be there to guide you every step of the way. Whether you need assistance with your smartphone, tablet or computer, this is a valuable chance to get those questions about your device answered. Let us help you make the most of your devices and explore the possibilities of the digital world. No registration is necessary.

    Diabetes Education Empowerment Program (DEEP) Support Group — Thursdays, April 11 through May 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays, April 24 through May 29 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. A diabetes support group is for many people a vital part of their diabetes management. These groups are communities of people living with diabetes, and they can make a significant, positive difference in the lives of the members. People come together to share their stories and experiences and to learn how to cope with this difficult illness. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (626) 397-3376.

    Movie Matinees — Fridays, April 5, 12, 19 and 26, at 1 p.m. onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Each PSC member who registers may bring one nonmember guest.

    • April 5: “Beyond the Sea” (2004) is the biopic of famed singer Bobby Darin (Kevin Spacey) and his rise to fame with hits such as ‘Splish Splash” and “Mack the Knife.” Also stars Kate Bosworth as his wife Sandra Dee.
    • April 12: “Cinderella Man” (2005), set during the Great Depression, tells the story of rags-to-riches boxer James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe) and his big 1935 fight against defending champion Max Baer. Also stars Renee Zellweger and Paul Giamatti.
    • April 19: “Dune” (2021) is the classic science fiction tale of Paul Atreides (Timotheé  Chalamet), a gifted and brilliant young man born into a great destiny, who must travel to a dangerous planet to ensure the future of his family and his people.
    • April 26: “Yesterday” (2019) When young Englishman and aspiring musician Jack wakes up after a bike accident during a global blackout, he discovers that he’s the only person who knows the music of The Beatles. Stars Himesh Patel, Lily James, Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran.     Legal Consultations — Thursday, April 4, at 10 a.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Free legal consultations only on conservatorship, wills/trusts, estate planning and durable power of attorney. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the Welcome Desk at (626) 795-4331.

    Stroke & Heart Disease Lecture — Thursday, April 4, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Strokes can happen at any time, so educating yourself now is key to a better outcome. This lecture will focus on different stroke types, how to help prevent a stroke from happening and what to do in a Stroke Emergency.     Food Bank Distribution Program — Friday, April 5 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center Distribution will take place in the parking lot. You must be age 60+ and present your ID to receive a box of groceries from the L.A. Regional Food Bank. We recommend you bring a shopping cart to take your box home. You are not permitted to open the boxes on our premises. For questions, call (626) 685-6732.

    Medicare: How Individuals Choose and Change Plans — Thursday, April 11, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Few things have more moving parts than Medicare. Have you received a consultative strategy to keep your doctors to receive your specific needed benefits and subscriptions that match your season of life in 2024? A Medicare consultant will walk us through the considerations to keep in mind to make sure you don't leave help on the table, or worse, be left with bill, or a void, that could have been prevented.     Caregivers are People Too! — Thursday April 18, at 10 a.m. via Zoom.  
    Caring for a loved one strains even the most resilient people. Many caregivers suffer from depression and anxiety. They may delay or neglect treatment of their own health conditions. By taking better care of themselves, caregivers may find they are able to provide better care for their loved one.     Health Fair — Friday, April 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Registered Nurse Kathy Eastwood from Huntington Hospital will be doing blood pressure and glucose testing. The Hear Center will be doing free hearing screenings. Insurance representatives will be on hand to show different Medicare Health Plans and answer questions that you may have.

    Age Well Roundtable: What's On Your Mind? Let's Talk About It!  — Friday, April 19, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Join in a supportive and confidential setting where participants are seen, heard and understood. Roundtables provide an environment to listen and learn from one another, share experiences and insights, where all viewpoints, fears and feelings are valued by the group. Based on participant needs and requests, specialists will address specific topics of interest in the ongoing roundtable sessions.     Free Produce Distribution on the Patio — Friday, April 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. (while supplies last) onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. Pre-assembled bags of vegetables will be distributed. Nutritious foods will be available to visitors at the Pasadena Senior Center. We recommend that you bring bags or a cart to take your produce home. Registration is not required.

    Electronic Waste Day —Tuesday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. onsite at the Pasadena Senior Center. This is an opportunity for free and environmentally responsible disposal of obsolete computers and other electronic items such as TVs, monitors, medical equipment, smart phones, and laptops. Please drop off your items in the patio area. Volunteers will be there to assist you. Registration is not required.

    Coordinating Careful Care — Thursday, April 25, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. When health and mobility challenges increase, life gets complex quickly. Suddenly, individuals and family members find themselves swinging between constantly rotating changes to medications, appointments, transportation needs, master planning groceries and meals, getting different doctors to communicate with each other and the list goes on! Learn how care management takes the chaos into calm and helps families navigate these complex seasons with ease, and how families can do their best to manage these seasons themselves.     Mediation, Conflict and Dispute Resolutions — Thursday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to noon onsite at Pasadena Senior Center. Learn about mediation, a highly successful dispute resolution process that provides people an opportunity to resolve conflicts without going to court. Mediation can help resolve landlord-tenant disputes, consumer debt, neighbor-neighbor, business, organization/agencies, family-domestic, and workplace/employment issues. Appointments can be made by calling (626) 795-4331.

    As a donor-supported nonprofit, the center operates without any local, state or federal funding and provides more services to older adults in the San Gabriel Valley than any other organization. Food Walking Tour.  Whenever possible, you’ll be met and hosted by the special merchants who proudly share their incredible offerings, including a stop at Semolina Artisanal Pasta, maker of certified organic fresh and dried pastas. The tour makes a horseshoe shape around Old Pasadena and concludes back at the original starting point. The food samples along the way are filling enough so that for most people dinner afterward is not necessary.

    Gratuity and parking are extra. Each tour is limited to a maximum of 8 participants.

    You and your furry friends are invited to walk or run on Sunday, April 21, at Brookside Park at the Rose Bowl!

    The Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run is one of the Pasadena Humane's biggest fundraisers of the year, with proceeds helping to save the lives of thousands of animals in our community with programs such as foster care, kitten nursery, animal ICU, wildlife, and more. 

    In addition to the Walk & Run course, you and your pup can stroll through the vendor expo, enjoy tasty food truck treats, and participate in the paw-some doggy costume contest!  Every dollar raised for the Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run helps to support animals who come to Pasadena Humane, many in need of a little extra care.
