    Terry Chatkupt: A Year

    to Tags:

Armory Center for the Arts is pleased to present Terry Chatkupt: A Year, an exhibition that uses the vast, wild terrain of the San Gabriel Mountains as a backdrop and inspiration for exploring the physical and psychological spaces where the natural and domestic collide. Referring to the year under lockdown, A Year includes video, photography, atmospheric music, and installation work by Pasadena-based artist Terry Chatkupt. The works investigate the complex relationships between the natural and the built environment, the outdoors and indoors, and the emotional effects of navigating between these dualities from the point of view of Chatkupt and his young children.

The exhibition will be on view in the Armory’s Caldwell Gallery from January 26 to March 31, 2024. A public reception is scheduled for Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a conversation between the artist Terry Chatkupt and his son Bodhi, the focus of recent video work, at 1 PM and a free all-ages art workshop with Armory teaching staff at 2 PM. Admission is free and open to the public.

Artist Talk with Terry and Bodhi Chatkupt
    Sunday, January 28, 1-2 PM

For three decades, the Armory has offered innovative approaches to presenting, creating, and teaching the visual arts. In addition to providing a showcase for contemporary art exhibitions and events, the Armory offers studio art classes and educational outreach programs to schools and the community that explore themes presented in the exhibitions. Terry Chatkupt: A Year will continue the Armory’s commitment to imaginative exhibitions and innovative outreach efforts by presenting materials in ways that enhance understanding and foster new visual and community connections. In addition to the diverse selection of artwork the exhibition will also include a series of public programs, school field trips, and activations.
